181 lb. Opah
Caught primarily in Hawaii “Opahs are large, colorful, deep-bodied pelagic lampriform fishes comprising the small family Lampridae. In 2015 the Opah was discovered to have near whole body endothermy, a form or regional endothermy”. – Wikipedia
They are mighty delicious and are rare to catch but for Joe Ludlow, he may have caught the biggest Opah ever! According to Men’s Journal, “Most passengers were fishing near the surface with bait, but the five anglers dropped heavy lures into deeper water, and suddenly all five were hooked into large fish that fought much differently than yellowtail. Ludlow’s fish was the first to be hauled over the rail, after a 30-minute fight.”
