Lack of Effectiveness
While not a health risk, per se, the effectiveness of e-cigs in helping a person quit tobacco has been greatly disputed. Many public health officials claim that vaping actually promotes more tobacco use by ‘normalizing” smoking, and points to the fact that many people who vape still use traditional cigarettes as well, essentially doubling the nicotine in their bodies. Others argue that using a vape acts as a gateway to smoking traditional cigarettes, creating the exact opposite effect of what was intended. It has been shown definitively that teens who vape are more likely to smoke as they get older. Medical officials, on the other hand, do suggest that there is evidence for vapes being a successful smoking cessation device, so effectiveness is still definitely out for debate.
