Scientists have determined that while baboons can make rational decisions, overall they don’t. Instead they exhibit very poor impulse control. Teens are also considered to be more impulsive than full adults, generally speaking, although the reasons why are still being disputed. Whether it’s a lack of experience, subconscious desire to gain experience, a growing interest in the world around them, or the fact that their brains aren’t fully developed, teenagers exhibit a plethora of risky behaviors, often reacting to situations by instinct or emotionally instead of rationally.
