Baboons are ranked by size
Male baboons are ranked in importance by size, while females are ranked by age. While this is admittedly a more tenuous comparison, the same can be argued to be true in teenage hierarchies. With sports and other competition becoming more important in the teen years, size becomes a more desired attribute for male. Seniority, on the other hand, seems to be much more important to females when deciding who is “in charge.” These are stereotypes frequently portrayed in movies and television, but again, they have to come from somewhere, right?
