Coffee beans go through a chemical process to become decaf and must be done while the seeds are still green. The beans are either soaked or steamed, then submerged in a solvent that dissolves the oils that contain caffeine. The caffeine that is extracted from the beans doesn’t go to waste, though. Sometimes it’s sold to pharmaceutical companies and other times to Coca-Cola!
