Could you imagine how bizarre it must be to see a person casually sitting in a chair suddenly erupt into flames from the inside out? That’s exactly what happens when you witness someone spontaneously combust.

Believe it or not, spontaneous human combustion isn’t a legend. It’s a proven phenomenon that has recorded evidence and actual deaths attributed to it. There was even one person who survived the phenomenon and lived to tell the tale.

The issue here is fairly obvious. People shouldn’t randomly erupt into flames from the outside in. Scientifically speaking, there’s nothing in the human body that should be able to combust like that. And yet, it’s a proven phenomenon.

So far, not much is known about why it happens. It tends to happen more frequently (but not always) with smokers and drinkers. However, that’s all we know. What kind of bizarre chemistry occurs to make this happen remains totally unknown.
